A new starter at TfGM, who has chosen to remain anonymous, describes the impact of a 37-hour week on them.

As a relative new starter at TfGM, having come from a previous role with a 35-hour week, I’m finding the extra 24 minutes a day demanded by the TfGM standard contract very difficult to fit into my week. It doesn’t sound like much, but it soon builds up if I prioritise work over personal wellbeing purely to fulfil the hours in the contract. I feel under pressure to stay at my desk long after 5pm to make up any time I’ve had to use during the day to deal with personal matters, e.g. medical appointments. It means that I can’t log off and go for a walk straight after work, which is what I used to do to de-stress between leaving my desk and cooking dinner. I was able to do my previous job in 35 hours a week and it’s causing me more stress than I had expected when I took the role. A 36-hour week would go some way to allowing me to fit in necessary non-work things which can only be done 9-5 Monday-Friday, and still allow some wellbeing.
