How does pay work at TfGM?

TfGM is part of the Passenger Transport Forum (PTF) along with the West Midlands and West Yorkshire Combined Authorities. UNISON and Unite bargain with the PTF. The unions submitted a pay claim in February for the pay increase due in April 2024.

When the employers make an offer, UNISON and Unite will hold a joint meeting for members to discuss it before reps decide whether or not to recommend acceptance. Both unions then conduct a single ballot of members across all three PTF employers to ask whether they accept or reject the offer.

Each job at TfGM is allocated to a pay band through a process of job evaluation. Jobs are occasionally re-banded, for example if employees push for it after their responsibilities have grown.

Each pay band is associated with a range of pay points. Each employee is at a particular point in their band. Each April, unless there is a reason, employees progress to the next point in their band until they reach the top point in their band.

Each point in a band is associated with an NJC pay point which gives the pay rate. Any increase applies to these pay figures.

Points in different bands can be on the same NJC pay point.
