The pay 2025 timeline is here.

It can be hard to keep track of everything going on – this page shows the timeline of the 2024 pay negotiations process and will be updated.

  • 13 February 2024: Unions submit pay claim to the Passenger Transport Forum (PTF) employers.
  • 18 March 2024: UNISON branch secretary asks at the Big Briefing why there have been no dates proposed for pay talks.
  • 1 April 2024: Our pay rises were due.
  • 4 April 2024: UNISON and Unite write to TfGM asking why there have still been no dates proposed for pay talks.
  • 11 April 2024: TfGM unions hold lunchtime open meeting to launch the Stop the Drop campaign and UNISON’s petition for a prompt pay offer in line with the claim.
  • 18 April 2024: First negotiations meeting takes place. Employers say they don’t want to make an offer until they see what Local Authority employers offer.
  • 9 May 2024: Subgroup meeting with employers to discuss equality pay gaps.
  • 16 May 2024: Local Authority employers provide pay offer to their staff.
  • 4 June 2024: UNISON submits petition from 341 staff for a prompt pay offer in line with the pay claim
  • 5 June 2024: Second negotiations meeting.
  • 10 June 2024: Subgroup meeting with employers.
  • 11 June 2024: Unions provide draft offer to the employers to assist them in making an offer.
  • 3 July 2024: Third negotiations meeting.
  • 4 July 2024: Employers provide a pay offer.
  • 8 July 2024: Employers provide clarification on the offer.
  • 11 July 2024: UNISON members’ meeting to discuss the offer.
  • 22 July 2024: UNISON and Unite hold members’ meetings to discuss the offer and voting opens.
  • 7 August 2024: Union members finish voting – and decide to reject the offer.
  • 8 August 2024: Unions inform employers of ballot result and invite them to reopen negotiations for an improved pay offer.
  • 21 August 2024: deadline set by unions for employers to agree to reopen negotiations for an improved pay offer.
  • 23 August 2024: employers reject proposal to reopen negotiations.
  • 4 September 2024: unions write to the Mayors about the employers’ bargaining practices.
  • 24 October 2024: webinar for UNISON and Unite members from TfGM, WMCA and WYCA.
  • 24 October 2024: Unite industrial action ballot opens.
  • 25 October 2024: UNISON industrial action ballot opens.
  • 5 November 2024: webinar for UNISON and Unite members from TfGM, WMCA and WYCA.
  • 8 November 2024: Meeting with the employers.
  • 14 November 2024: Unite ballot closes (results).
  • 15 November 2024: UNISON ballot closes (results).
  • 20 November 2024: Meeting with the employers. New proposal from the unions.
  • 21 November 2024: Meeting with the employers. New offer from the employers.
  • 22 November 2024: Local discussion with TfGM management about a new offer they want to make.
  • 25 November 2024: Meeting with the employers. New offer from the employers.
  • 26 November 2024: Meeting with the employers. New proposal from the unions.
  • 28 November 2024: Unions serve notice of industrial action.
  • 29 November 2024: Meeting with the employers. New offer from the employers.
  • 2 December 2024: Joint UNISON & Unite TfGM members’ meeting dismisses the offer.
  • 3 December 2024: Meeting with the PTF employers.
  • 4 December 2024: Local negotiations at TfGM.
  • 9 December 2024: Local negotiations at TfGM. New offer from TfGM.
  • 10 December 2024: Meeting with the PTF employers. TfGM union members vote by 76% to reject the offer without a full ballot and to go ahead with action from 12 December.
  • 12 December 2024: Industrial action begins. Day one report.
  • 13 December 2024: Industrial action. First meeting with Mayor Andy Burnham and TfGM CEO Caroline Simpson. Day two report.
  • 14 December 2024: ‘Improved and final’ offer received. Industrial action suspended.
  • 16 December 2024: Joint UNISON & Unite TfGM members’ meeting
  • 22 December 2024: Ballot on ‘improved and final’ offer closes at midnight.
  • 23 December 2024: Members of both unions vote to accept the offer, ending the dispute.
